This year, our beloved Yanaguana Fest finds a new home in the heart of San Antonio’s East Side at Essex Modern City, just minutes from our main campus. To us, this move is more than a change of venue — it is an intentional act of celebration and solidarity. The East Side is sacred ground: a neighborhood rich with history, resilience, and cultural vibrancy, worthy of protection, recognition, and joy.
The Mission of the American Indians in Texas at the Spanish Colonial Missions is to work for the preservation and protection of the culture and traditions of the Tap Pilam Coahuiltecan Nation and other indigenous people of the Spanish Colonial Missions in South Texas and Northern Mexico through: education, research, community outreach, economic development projects.
Enjoy a guided tour by Lineal Descendants of Mission San José de Aguayo, Mission Concepción de la Purísima, Mission San Francisco de la Espada and Mission San Juan Capistrano. Built in the mid-18th Century by members of the Pampopa, Payaya, Sanas, Maraquitas, Pamaques, Quijanes, Tocanes and other tribes of the San Antonio area. Learn what became of the Mission Indians, and their continued contributions to the History of San Antonio and Texas Independence. Experience Native foods both pre and post Mission period, traditional song and dance and the making of folk art.
Please Note: Mission San Antonio de Valero (The Alamo) is one of San Antonio’s Missions, but it is not included on this tour.
